Weekend Watchdog:Networks Strike Out

Sunday morning news talk show hosts went 0-for-3 this week, failing to ask any of the Weekend Watchdog questions we wanted answered. Here’s what we wanted to know:

For House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio ( Fox News Sunday ): You recently said: “We can walk out on Iraq just like we did in Lebanon, just like we did in Vietnam, just like we did in Somalia and we will leave chaos in our wake.” Yet you voted to accelerate the deadline to leave Somalia, and voted against funding for the Somalia operation (see Progress Ohio and Buckeye State Blog). [UPDATE: Think Progress was on this too.] Doesn’t that show your comments were partisan rhetoric, and not principled foreign policy arguments?

For Newt Gingrich (CBS’ Face The Nation): In your global warming debate with Sen. John Kerry, you argued that tax credits would do more than government caps on carbon emissions. But the new IPCC report recommends a comprehensive strategy that does both and then some. Does pushing such a narrow plan show you’re not serious about stopping global warming?

For Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo. (ABC’s This Week): You claim that your opposition to illegal immigration, and your reference to Miami as a “Third World” country, is not rooted in racism. But then why did you appear last year at a hate group event in South Carolina, and sing “Dixie” amidst Confederate flags?
