Weekend Watchdog

Every Friday in our Weekend Watchdog feature, Common Sense will post suggested questions for scheduled Sunday guests. You can add your own questions in the comment thread. We’ll also include contact information for the shows, so we can let them know what their viewers want asked.

Then on Monday, we’ll circle back and see if our questions were asked, and if they were answered. Let’s take back our media!

For Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz. (on ABC’s This Week): Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said this week, “If the President vetoes this [Iraq] bill he will have delayed funding for troops and kept in place his strategy for failure.”

Isn’t it better for the troops to receive funding as part of a new strategy, instead of continuing to fund a failed strategy that is keeping them in harm’s way?

For Newt Gingrich (Fox News Sunday): You have criticized Speaker Nancy Pelosi for meeting with Syrian leaders against the wishes of the President.

But you not only met leaders abroad when you were speaker, you made declarations of US policy in Israel and China that directly contradicted the White House, and personally attacked the Secretary of State.

As Speaker Pelosi did no such thing on her trip, on what grounds can you criticize her?

To Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. (Fox News Sunday): Last week you floated a compromise in the Prosecutor Purge scandal, offering private testimony of White House aides but with transcripts. As the White House did not accept the offer, why not go forward with issuing subpoenas?
