The failure that is the Bush Administration is so stark that even Fox News Sunday can’t look away, scoring one for the Watchdog.
Host Chris Wallace asked President Bush that since the “Republican nominee” will likely “have to carry along and deal with a faltering economy,” “unpopular war” and an “unpopular president,” “how does he overcome all of that”?
The best Bush could do stick to fearmongering on taxes and terrorism.
If they’re going to say, oh, we’re only going to tax the rich people, but most people in America understand that the rich people hire good accountants and figure out how not to necessarily pay all the taxes and the middle class gets stuck.
Sure, maybe it’s a good idea for those making over $200,000 to contribute their fair share, but it’s impossible! Give up and cut their taxes some more!
And the other one, this is a dangerous world and Americans understand it’s dangerous. They understand we’re under threat of attack and whoever our nominee is is going to have to convince them that we will take whatever measures are necessary to protect us.
Such fearmongering failed in 2006, because voters saw that conservative foreign policy was making the world more dangerous.
Neither of the other Watchdog questions were asked to Karl Rove or Mike Huckabee.
Rove was on CBS’ Face The Nationvstrictly as a political analyst of the presidential race. Never mind that he resigned under a dark cloud for his apparent role in the U.S. prosecutor purge, and has never explained his actions.
And Huckabee on Face The Nation and NBC’s Meet The Press was not asked to compare his foreign policy views with John McCain’s, even though it is widely speculated (albeit denied by Huckabee) that he is angling for a V.P. spot.
