Weekend Watchdog Wrap-Up

Another weak performance for the Sunday shows, failing to ask the key Watchdog queries.

Neither CBS’ Face The Nation or Fox News Sunday pressed McCain’s top campaign aides about their vocation as corporate lobbyists and the inherent conflict of interest that presents the campaign. In particular, Fox pampered McCain aide Rick Davis by featuring him in its weekly “Power Player” puff segment.

CBS at least asked McCain aide Charlie Black a couple questions about McCain’s contradictory statements regarding his interaction with lobbyists, but prefaced them passively, saying, “There are several questions … that I would like to give you a chance to clear up,” and asked no follow-up questions.

On NBC’s Meet The Press, Ralph Nader was not asked if there was a more effective way to push his issues and affect the debate than by running a fourth presidential campaign.

On ABC’s This Week, Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison was not directly asked about her praise for Pakistan’s Pervez Musharraf, but to be fair, she pre-empted that question by supporting a “graceful exit” for Musharraf in the wake of recent parliamentary elections.
