States Standing Up For Kids: Part II

Stateline reports that the National Association of State Medicaid Directors will be calling on the Bush administration to “back off its proposal” blocking states from extending health coverage to more uninsured kids.

And “If the administration refuses,” (or more accurately, “when” it refuses), “Medicaid directors will lobby Congress to override the rules as it tries to pass a major piece of legislation on children’s health insurance by Sept. 30.”

These state directors surely remember what Open KY dug up earlier this week: that the same administration cracking down on state flexibility in covering uninsured kids, had been praising state flexibility for the program since 2001.

But hey, if the administration ever cared about making consistent arguments, Iraq wouldn’t be Vietnam now.
